Barn houses Scottish art

Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 17:50

This weekend there is an opportunity to see the work of Scotland-based artist Kirsten Harris. She will be exhibiting some of her monumental equestrian paintings created during a period as 2008 Artist in Residence at Perth Racecourse, wildlife paintings drawn from her time working at the Imire Rhino Reserve in Zimbabwe as well as a selection of landscapes and seascapes at The Barn in Wedmore.

Kirsten trained in painting and history of art at Bretton Hall College Yorkshire where she developed her vibrant and expressive style.

While in Japan, she studied the art of Japanese brush drawings, which combines the fluidity of brushstroke with control and precision, which informs much of her work.

Kirsten has recently produced the exhibition Speed for the launch of the Jaguar XK and has exhibited at the Dunhill International Golf Championships, St Andrew's.

Other artists exhibiting this weekend at The Barn include Victoria James who designs and creates a unique range of hand-crafted silver, pearl and crystal jewellery.

Each piece uses coloured fresh water pearls and Swarovski crystal. Her collection is sold at Charlton House in Shepton Mallet.

Sarah Donoghue creates cushions using a mix of new and vintage textiles and trims to produce one-off designs with a fashion-led influence.

She also undertakes commissions using treasured fabrics, for example a favourite item of children's clothing or a nostalgic textile.

Other exhibitors include Jane Norris who makes contemporary clothing from leather, suede and lambskin, Sarah Peeks who makes works of art using natural objects, filmmaker and abstract artist John Podpadec and potter Di Harris.

The exhibition runs from today, from 6pm to 10pm and tomorrow and Saturday from 10am to 8pm at The Barn at Lerburne House, The Borough, Wedmore.
